    Job description
    The Division of Internal medicine has a position for a resident in Veterinary Internal Medicine. The Internal Medicine Residency Program provides advanced clinical training in small animal internal medicine, which meets the training requirements outlined by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). The primary objectives of the program are to develop clinical proficiency in small animal internal medicine; gain experience in didactic and clinical teaching; and to complete one or more clinical research projects. The duration of the program is three years. Successful examination and certification as diplomate by the ECVIM is anticipated by the end of the third year.
    The Internal Medicine Residency is challenging and requires a very strong work ethic, flexibility, organizational skills, excellent communication skills, an ability to work well with staff, and a dedication to independent study. Throughout the residency, residents work individually with each internist on a rotating basis, but there is an increase in primary case responsibility after the first year of the residency. Emphasis is placed on fine-tuning diagnostic and case management skills, as well as learning how best to communicate with owners and referral partners. The residency program is under direct supervision of the program manager and resident adviser as stipulated by the ECVIM constitution. The resident will also be involved in clinical teaching to students.

    Qualifications
    We are looking for graduated veterinarians that followed a 12-months internship at a veterinary faculty or worked for at least two years in a well-equipped companion animals. We expect from you a contribution to patient care, teaching and research of the Division of Internal Medicine with increasing self-reliance, participation in emergency care in the evening, night and weekends. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of both oral and written English and Dutch at the start of the residency.

    Offer
    The initial appointment to the residency program is a temporary position for one year, with continuation in the program for successive two years contingent upon satisfactory performance.
    A monthly gross salary of € 2476,- for the first year, increasing to € 2717,- gross per month in the third year (scale 10 of the Collective Agreement on Terms of the Dutch Universities). Secondary benefits based on the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities are excellent in general and include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions and salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8,3% per year. Travel costs for international conferences and working meetings are also included.

Together they are responsible for patient care, research and teaching responsibilities of the department. The department has a well-equipped animal hospital that performs around 15.000 consultations per year. Specialty disciplines offered at the department besides internal medicine are anesthesiology, avian medicine and surgery, cardiology, clinical pathology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, neurology, nutrition, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, reproduction, surgery, and oncology.
