As the UK’s largest retail and commercial bank, we have a footprint that touches nearly every community and household in the UK. Our brands, our services and our business span every aspect of banking and finance, including some of the biggest names on the UK's high streets. That gives us a big responsibility to support the UK economy, and we have a clear strategy to put customers first – and achieve our vision of becoming the best bank for customers.

Our Commercial Banking business provides a client focused approach for UK businesses and businesses with strong links to the UK – the lifeblood of the country’s economy. Through our network of relationship managers our clients can tap into sound local knowledge, allowing us to provide them with expert advice on their businesses and the products they need to help them secure growth, manage risk and maximise efficiency.
Our clients can access core banking products, such as lending to transform their businesses, unlock growth and drive wealth and job creation, deposits and a range of domestic and international transaction banking services. We also offer advice in the capital markets (private placements, bonds and syndicated loan) and financial markets (foreign exchange, interest rate management, money market and credit).

The Commercial Banking Control Function (CBCF) enables Commercial Banking to achieve its capital efficiency and profitability targets within a strong, client-aware control environment. As a first line Control Function, the CBCF proactively partners the business to establish and maintain a robust control framework that supports business growth and enables quality client service, focusing on operational risk and fraud and financial crime. The function aims to keep the Commercial Banking division safe.

An opportunity has arisen in Fraud and Financial Crime team within CBCF to be part of the Sanctions & Investigations team. This team supports the Director Fraud & Financial Crime in the delivery of financial crime prevention activities relating to Sanctions risk in Commercial Bank’s client relationships.

The role of the team is to work in partnership with Relationship Managers when they are seeking Sanctions Policy waivers, to assess the associated risks. You’ll investigate potential Sanctions breaches and determine the appropriate action. You’ll challenge the business to ensure Financial Crime risks are understood, mitigated and controlled and provide advice and guidance to Relationship Managers to improve Sanctions risk awareness.

Working closely with the Senior Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the team completes due diligence and risk assessments on customers believed to have a connection to sanctioned countries/entities, and make recommendations to senior management for approval. As a subject matter expert, you’ll need to keep abreast of industry developments and regulation, sharing information as appropriate across other teams within the division.

You will be a senior member of a dedicated Sanctions team providing technical subject matter expertise to assess risk within New to Bank and existing client portfolios - in order to maintain Group-wide policy requirements and minimum standards in accordance with agreed risk appetite.

To succeed in this position, you’ll need to have an excellent technical knowledge of AML and a good technical knowledge of other areas of financial crime. You’ll have strong analytical and investigative skills, applying logical thinking to problem solving and taking responsibility for seeing queries and issues through to resolution.

You’ll be a team player, able to get things done and to use your communication skills to work in partnership with others to achieve the Fraud and Financial Crime team’s objectives. You’ll know how to manage expectations of all internal and external customers, prioritising your workload to meet team deadlines.

This is a key position in helping Commercial Banking to deliver the control environment that is right for the bank and our clients. If you have the background and abilities we’re looking for – and if you’re seeking a role where you can make a real difference – then we’d like you to get in touch with your application details.
