Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer specialising in PHP to join Hummingbird Technologies in order to provide an impeccable user experience for the global agricultural revolution.

Your main responsibility will be in helping to deliver the analysis produced by the data analytics layer of the platform and ensuring the farm manager has instant access to the most pertinent information that will assist and drive their decision-making process.

You will be working closely with API developers and Data Scientists in our technology team and will be expected to help shape the delivery process. You will keep an eye on the customer experience, performance and stability.

Responsibilities

• The development and delivery of an analytics platform for farm managers
• The maintenance of a high level of quality and robustness within our architecture
• Ensure the smooth deployment of our back end(s)
• Build tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve customer experience
• Perform root cause analysis for production/implementation bugs
• Working within a team framework to ensure the delivery of the collective goals of the company

Requirements

Required

• Demonstrable experience of 5+ years as a Senior PHP Engineer
• Experience with Symfony Framework 4.x and newer
• Experience working with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) and ORM (Symfony Doctrine, or similar)
• Experience working with REST APIs
• Understanding of message queues (rabbitmq, redis, kafka, or similar)
• Solid knowledge of cloud computing (Google Cloud or similar) and CI/CD pipelines
• Solid knowledge of git and source control
• Good problem-solving, communication and leadership skills
• Work visa for UK / EU passport (we do not sponsor visas)

Ideal background

• GraphQL and microservices
• Experience with geospatial data and map APIs (e.g. Google Maps, Leaflet)
• Familiarity with Python, Docker/kubernetes, and serverless infrastructure
• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
• Personal demonstrable interest in environmental impact and sustainability
