    About you and your role:
    If you are interested in energy systems including grid-edge, off-grid, automotive, and aerospace, and pushing the boundaries using novel power electronics devices, then we are looking for you! An inquisitive, self-motivated, resourceful and team-oriented engineer, with strong leadership and project management skills, who takes initiative to ensure that results are delivered, even in an environment with a high number of unknowns.

    Typical responsibilities include:

    • Formulating detailed plans for projects based on client requirements with broad guidance from the team
    • Engaging in prototyping and development of complete systems with other team members
    • Coordinating the day-to-day activities of internal and external engineers
    • Providing deployment and troubleshooting support for integration activities during field trials
    • Opportunities to travel worldwide to conferences or to work with partners / customers / suppliers

    Required Skills:

    • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related area (OR equivalent work experience)
    • Significant industry (or research experience) with power electronics hardware
    • Designing and coding control systems, and using detailed simulation models
    • Hands on experience with designing / implementing controllers
    • Strong skills in Matlab/Simulink OR any object oriented programming language (i.e. Python / Java, C++)
    • Keen to learn, can adapt quickly and pick up new technologies and skills
    • Well developed interpersonal and team skills, able to train junior engineers
    • Experience with designing and undertaking a complex programme of experimental work
    • Ability to write technical reports, deliver internal / external presentations
    • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written
    • Preferred Skills (even one would be fantastic):
    • Developing real-time implementations for integration into real-time simulation models
    • Experience in electronic design, including programming / commissioning and testing of bespoke hardware
    • Familiarity with developing / validating mechanisms for online monitoring of energy storage systems
    • Experience with experimentally validating detailed simulation tools in lab / field settings
    • Familiarity with cascaded dc/dc converter systems
    • Any exposure to working with battery manufacturers / suppliers / end users
