About Embr Labs
Embr Labs is a Boston-based technology startup with patented wearable technology that goes beyond sensing. Our wearable thermal technology provides heating and cooling at the touch of a button and is already helping tens of thousands of people live better lives through personal temperature control. We are a science-driven team of interdisciplinary, collaborative, and compassionate people on a mission to harness the body’s natural response to temperature to enhance human wellbeing. Our technology was invented by the company’s founders while at MIT; we are backed by DigiTx Partners, Safar Partners, Bose Ventures and Intel Capital, and we have partnered with companies like Johnson & Johnson.
About this position
We are seeking a smart, energetic, and impact-oriented Thermomechanical Engineer to lead the development and ongoing improvement of future generations of our patented thermal technology. This is a critical role on a small engineering team poised to have a huge impact on people’s lives. The Thermomechanical Engineer will use simulation and experiment to push the boundaries of our thermal system, deliver smaller and more powerful devices, and ultimately pioneer a new category of wearable thermal devices that empower people to live better lives. The Thermomechanical engineer will have impact across the entire technology development lifecycle, spanning thermal system simulation and design, wearable technology prototyping, control system development, and technical requirement definition, testing, and validation.
Responsibilities
- Deliver wearable thermal technology that will improve people’s lives by meeting or exceeding mechanical, thermal, and ergonomic requirements.
- Lead the design and development of thermomechanical systems and their integration into new wearable devices, from concept to product. The thermomechanical systems include thermoelectric modules, thermal management systems, and dynamic control systems that interface with the human body.
- Improve the performance and reduce the size of Embr's wearable thermomechanical systems using a combination of simulation & experimental validation.
- Define thermal system and subsystem requirements and specifications, ensure that final product designs meet targeted requirements.
- Design and improve thermal system testing and validation infrastructure and protocols.
- Provide clear technical project management to teams developing a variety of electro-thermo-mechanical subsystems, systems and products.
- Bring an entrepreneurial and experimental mindset to our science-driven technology startup.
Qualifications
- Experience designing, building, and testing thermal systems with dynamic control systems
- Experience with thermal simulation methodology and tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, SolidWorks Flow, Thermal Desktop, ANSYS,
- Deep technical proficiency in mechanical engineering (M.S. and/or 3+ years of industry experience).
- Experience and proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
- Experience with or strong interest in thermoelectric systems
- Experience with project management and ability to work effectively and independently on interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, agile, and fast-paced environment.
Things you will get:
- The opportunity to make a transformative impact by leading in a rapidly growing wellness tech company

Bonus Qualifications
Not required but relevant
- Experience with or strong interest in thermoelectric systems, control systems, and/or human sensory physiology.
- Experience working with engineering contractors, preparing RFP/RFQ, managing partners to deliver on time and budget.
- Experience bringing a product into mass production, working across all stages of product life cycle.
- Design and/or update mechanical parts and assemblies under limited supervision to meet specified function
- Prepare documentation for production parts, including detailed production drawings (e.g. per ASME Y14.5)
- Experience with regulated medical products and risk management, including such standards as ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.
- Experience working with or a strong interest in wearable technology, consumer and and/or medical devices.
