    Role Summary

    Membership and Supporter Events Manager

    Advancement

    Full-time

    Fixed-term (6 months with the possibility of up to 13 months)

    £32,084.85 per annum

    This role is responsible for designing an annual calendar of high-quality events for supporters and Members, making best use of resources to ensure supporters feel valued.

    Members and supporters enjoy a number of benefits including access to free out of hours events (which help the Museum to retain its existing Members’ loyalty) and the opportunity to book events for which there is an additional charge (which help the Museum to generate additional income). The Membership and Supporter Events Manager is responsible for developing, delivering and managing the Member events programme. The role is also responsible for liaising with wider Advancement, and the Museum’s central Events’ team, regarding supporter events, with a particular focus on events for the Museum’s Patrons groups.

    Key areas of responsibility:

    • Design an event programme for Members of the Museum’s adult and child membership schemes to:
      • Achieve engagement between Members and the Museum and its collection
      • Create value for Members and therefore increase retention rates and overall satisfaction
      • Create attractive events that encourage new individuals to become Members
      • Achieve income targets which ensure Membership activities are sustainable, and maximise the grant from Friends to the Museum
      • Balance opportunities to engage with the Museum on-site at Bloomsbury, with opportunities to attend online events
    • To take responsibility for all Member events including:
      • Managing the budget for Membership events, forecasting and delivering income
      • Evaluating audience needs and requirements and past event performance
      • Designing an appropriate annual event schedule, considering how best to engage Members during the year and align with the Museum’s programme of exhibitions (to be signed off by the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager)
      • Support the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager and Membership and Supporter Engagement Coordinator as they design a campaign of communications to promote events
      • Event planning including preparing event briefs and risk assessments as appropriate
      • Coordinating, developing, managing, delivering and evaluating each event
      • Recruiting and managing freelance and volunteer staff where required
      • Liaising with other departments to identify opportunities and synergies, as well as avoiding overlap of event content and pressure on space
    • To support the Museum’s Patrons programme and the stewardship of wider supporters by:
      • Working with the Museum’s central Events team to plan and execute a suite of on-site events for Patrons and other Museum supporters including talks, tours and exhibition-related events
      • Ensuring that copy for Patron and supporter events is available for inclusion in printed and electronic communications
    • Additional responsibilities
      • Managing the Membership and Supporter Events Coordinator
      • Supporting the aim of the Museum to engage audiences more deeply with its work and the collection, and balancing this with the demand from Members and supporters for exclusive, behind the scenes events - providing exciting and new ways to view the collection that benefits all parties
      • Working closely with the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager to identify key opportunities for recruitment and retention of Members, as well as any opportunities for generating guest ticket income
      • Working with the Museum’s Broadcast team to produce high quality digital content for our supporters, which strengthen engagement with the Museum
      • To represent the Membership team at weekly event meetings and at Front of House meetings
      • To support the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager with other projects as appropriate

    Person specification:

    With a degree or equivalent, the successful candidate will have previous experience managing both large and small events that would include experience of following relevant legislation and health and safety and risk guidance, including preparing risk assessments. Highly organised, with excellent planning skills and strong understanding of event design, development, delivery and review, you would have worked in multi-task contexts. You would be a confident use of software packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
