    Job description

    About the Position
At FiscalNote, we help connect people and organizations to their governments. The platforms we build ingest and analyze terabytes of unstructured policy data, allowing our clients to find the right information at the right time. You will work predominantly on our backend service layer, which is responsible for everything from data ingestion to search and alerting. As a high-growth company, you’ll never have a boring day: the opportunity to work across multiple products, teams, and features are routine at FN. You will get the opportunity to work at a late-stage startup pushing the boundaries of open data transparency while collaborating with some of the industry’s brightest engineers, data scientists, designers, and product professionals.

    About the Team
The R&D team spans backend developers, data engineers, and data scientists. We work on search engines, python infrastructure, machine learning models, APIs, raw data ingestion pipelines, and much more.

    About You
You are just as comfortable charting your own course as you are collaborating deeply with a team. You consider yourself an independent thinker, who loves to work on ambitious projects and relentlessly pursues creative technological solutions. You value iterative improvement, and love building prototypes. You may have spent a lot of time playing with legos as a kid. You might still play with legos. You enjoy diving deep on new domains. Ambiguity energizes you, and you enjoy finding optimizations in an ever-changing environment. You like working in an environment with multiple tech stacks.

    What to Expect:

    • Continue to build out our backend service layer, placing an emphasis on scalability
    • Work across teams to ensure cohesion and collaboration across R&D functions (Engineering, Product, QA, Data, etc.)
    • Own and drive forward projects
    • Be excited to learn and work with a ton of technologies, from Databricks to Elasticsearch to Ansible
    • Build and maintain data pipelines that collect, transform and enable easy, fast access to hundreds of disparate datasets collected from our scraping platform

    What Sets You Apart:

    • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline or a combination of Technical Bootcamps, Trainings and relevant experience in software engineering or software development on the job
    • You are curious and a fast learner -- we value teachability over existing knowledge
    • Deep understanding of object-oriented software engineering, data structures, and algorithms
    • Interest in policy and government
    • Willingness to own projects and grow your skillset
    • Prior experience with core technologies we use: Python, AWS, git, Elasticsearch, PostgresQL; And Methods / Practices we use: test-driven development, service-oriented architectures, API design
