THE ROLE
SFL Scientific is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our growing data science team and support our AI consulting practice. In this role, the ideal candidate will have ownership over defining, designing and developing solutions for our clients who are looking to implement technical processes that support and deploy machine learning and AI technologies. Key to this role is the ability to demonstrate cloud development, automation, DevOps, MLOps, data engineering, and streamlining IT infrastructure processes for organizations across a range of industries including healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, energy, and more. In our consultative approach, we are platform agnostic and are committed to providing the best technical solutions for each client and solution. You will work cross-functionally with data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers, project managers, and industry experts to develop robust AI systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with clients to design, develop, and deploy new architectures for machine learning & automation applications such as ELT functions, HPC/compute infrastructure, AWS/Azure hybrid solutions, database management, and optimization of DevOps procedures
Leverage advanced skills in modern data architecture, data science engineering, data transformation, management of structured and unstructured data sources using cloud computing or on-prem technologies
Support and enhance data architecture, data pipelines, and define database schemas (Graph DB, SQL, NoSQL) to develop algorithm scalability and deployment based on agile business priorities and technology initiatives
Lead and participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security, and high availability in the cloud or on-prem
Adopt best engineering practices in automation, HPC, CI/CD, and AIOps and mentor jr. members of the team to do so as well
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in STEM field or equivalent experience. Master’s preferred.
5+ years experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, MLOps
Expertise with code management and DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Jenkins, etc.)
Expertise with workflow orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Glue, etc.
Experience designing data architectures and understanding of different types of database and platforms (relational, NoSQL, graph, etc.)
Experience with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Dask), cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure), containerization, and supporting analytics libraries
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
