    Duties
    Oversee the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (the Agency) science and research, encompassing: implementing, leading, promoting, and supporting the overall scientific agenda and Agency Framework for Science and Research Excellence; leading the establishment and monitoring of Agency’s science priorities; promoting Agency science and science partnerships by identifying and building on synergies; leveraging funds for science in support of Agency and Ministerial priorities and leading and/or supporting excellence and innovation in Agency science and science-policy integration activities.

    Education:

    PhD in a field related to the position.

    Degree equivalency

    Experience:

    Extensive* experience in developing strategic alliances and partnerships with science stakeholders including: academia, government departments and agencies, and international organizations.

    Extensive* experience in providing advice to senior management (i.e. at the ADM, Deputy, Minister, and CEO levels or equivalent) on complex science based programs and policies.

    Significant** experience in ensuring the quality of an organization's science (including Research and Development) programming.

    Significant** experience with research and publication in domains relevant to public health.

    Experience in the management of human and financial resources at the executive level or equivalent.

    *Extensive experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally acquired by performing a broad range of various, complex, related activities in at least two different roles.

    Knowledge:

    Knowledge of the mandate, strategic objectives and science priorities of the Public Health Agency of Canada and of the Government of Canada.

    Knowledge and understanding of the various science specialties, methodologies, principles and practices relevant to public health.
