ABOUT THE ROLE
DevOps Engineering at NYSHEX is central to providing the platform to transform the shipping industry. You will build, manage and support the technology infrastructure necessary to support all our teams from Engineering, to Operations, to Marketing. You will use AWS, Terraform, and other technologies to build a scalable, efficient infrastructure. You will create, implement and improve monitoring, alerts, and security practices for NYSHEX. You will collaborate with our Engineering and other teams to ensure that we are making the best strategic decisions as it pertains to our technology infrastructure and technology operations practices.
This is a full-time role, based in New York City, with 3 days per week in the office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you will:
Build and deploy infrastructure in AWS, using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
Manage a wide range of services including Postgres Databases, Java Microservices, Kafka, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Kubernetes and many more
Respond to Ad hoc requests from Engineering team, management and others
Develop and improve monitoring and incident alerting systems to maintain site performance
Manage SaaS Services such as Jira Cloud, Notion, 2FA providers
Orchestrate our Container and Microservice architecture
Collaborate with engineers on overall system architecture, scalability and maintainability
Constantly work to identify and mitigate security concerns
Contribute to formal development and adoption of organizational policies
QUALIFICATIONS
You are a great fit for this role if you have:
3+ years of hands-on experience building, managing, and scaling 24/7 cloud infrastructures, using both AWS and Terraform IaC
5+ years of Linux Systems Engineering experience – RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, AWS Linux
Expert knowledge of Unix Principles and shell tools such as grep, awk, sed. AWS CLI.
Scripting in Python & shell scripts
Automation & Configuration Management – Ansible, Chef, Puppet
Solid Database skills – RDS, Postgres, MySQL, Permission Grants, SQL Explain
Monitoring, detecting problems without noise – DataDog, CloudWatch, Nagios
Experience managing the following in Production
Containerization (Docker) and container orchestration services – ECS, K8
Java Application Severs – JRE, Microservices
Messaging Systems – Kafka, Zookeeper
A thorough knowledge of networking, CDNs, and load balancing ELB
A strong command of system security and resiliency designs and best practices - 2FA
Experience contributing to implementation of infrastructure and security policies and procedures. IOS, HITRUST Auditing and Certification, SOC2 Compliance.
A solid mix of initiative, imagination, and work ethic
An understanding what it takes to work at a startup, including the need to ‘wear multiple hats’
Proactive, when issues that are discovered noting it & working towards solution
You are an exceptional candidate for this role if you also have:
A Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field
Familiarity with a JVM ecosystem in a Microservices environment
Previous experience and desire to mentor, reflect and contribute ideas—and implement changes for a better architecture and workflow
NYC Salary Disclosure
In accordance with New York City Local Law 32, the expected salary for this role is between $160,000 and $190,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package. This role may be eligible for additional compensation in the form of bonuses and/or stock options as well. The bottom of our salary range represents the minimum for a candidate who meets the qualifications for the role. All offers to candidates will ultimately be based on that candidate's individual experience and skillset, and not every candidate will qualify for the top end of the salary range. #LI-Hybrid
