    Job description

    Community. Innovation. Decentralization.

These are our core values. We weave them deeply into the fabric of our products. We’re a web3 shopping network, a media lab, and major e-commerce player rolled in one. Fundamentally, we conceive, build and scale peer-to-peer shopping applications that help people shop smarter and to find and acquire the things they’ll love.

Demand.io is a startup studio and decentralized e-commerce network - we own and operate leading properties such as SimplyCodes (simplycodes.com), the first truly community-powered couponing utility, driven by crypto and blockchain, Knoji (knoji.com), our popular legacy shopping discussion platform undergoing a re-imagination as a web3-driven shopping community with shared incentives, and Vector (vector.xyz, in development), an upcoming web3 music discovery service focused on NFT-enabled collaboration and monetization among musicians and visual creatives.

We’re looking for a passionate, talented, artistic yet analytical product designer to join us as our first design hire under our VP of Product. This will be a crucial head of design role as you’ll set the direction, vision and lead execution for UI / UX design across our portfolio of apps and new services in incubation. In this role, you’ll face a broad range of strategic design challenges spanning tokenized community design, gamification, crowdsourcing, NFT and digital asset e-commerce and social shopping patterns across web, mobile, extension and voice interaction points. You’ll have significant autonomy to ideate and create and deliver end-to-end design frameworks and systems to solve high-level, strategic user problems and product goals.

A little more about us. We’re a lean team of passionate technologists and product leaders working as a close-knit group to build new, innovative services that make everyday shopping tasks easier for consumers. With 60 employees worldwide and a small senior leadership team based at our headquarters in West LA, we operate a network of apps that serve millions of users and drive over a billion dollars of e-commerce transaction volume annually. We run as an equity partnership, offering outsize compensation packages through profit-sharing to senior management. Creating strongly aligned incentives for our employees, stakeholders and communities has been critical to our success - it’s part of our DNA.

This is an in-person leadership role based in our West LA headquarters. While most of our global team is 100% remote, our executive and leadership roles are primarily in-person roles based in our LA innovation hub. While we embrace overall flexibility in our day-to-day schedules, we do not explicitly lean into a remote or primarily remote culture. Our creative workspace is kinetic, energetic and is central to our ability to brainstorm, ideate, experiment and collaborate as a team. We welcome applicants seeking in-person roles and who can commute to the West LA / Brentwood area.

    What you’ll do:

      • Lead design from discovery to implementation across key problem spaces for our different apps (gamification, creation tools, search, social engagement, deals/coupons, social tokens and NFTs, etc.).

      • Transform complex product challenges into well-articulated, intuitive user journeys that shape a clear path for our users to their goals.

      • Craft user experiences that engage customers cross-platform from web to mobile app to browser extension and beyond.

      • Design new product concepts and rapidly prototype to field test with end users. Set the bar high for design quality while helping the product team ship features with pace.

      • Develop and guide design standards for overall experience — far beyond visual — and collaborate with engineering to apply these at scale.

      • Contribute to and maintain our design system in an effort to influence quality and efficiency of our product development.

      • Seek the voice of our end customers through continuous research and testing, informing the product roadmap. Lead design sprints to generate diverse ideas from stakeholders and expedite decision making.

      • Build a deep understanding of our different properties and their respective customers, tailoring the brand voice and experience to each.

    About you:

      • 5+ years of experience as a product or experience designer.

      • Outstanding UX capabilities and strong visual design competency working in mobile-centric environments.

      • Experience conducting user research and familiarity with research methods a plus.

      • A track record of shipping phenomenal consumer-facing experiences → extending across different platforms including web, iOS, Android and browser extensions.

      • Proficient in Figma, Sketch, InVision Studio/DSM and other design tools.

      • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills when communicating design to both technical and non-technical team members.

      • Strategic thinker with the ability to blend user, business and technical considerations into comprehensive design solutions.

      • Self-starter attitude with ambition to grow. Looking for an environment where you can do your best work and be inspired by those around you.

      • UX writing and/or interaction design experience a plus but not required.

    About the job:

      • Annual compensation: ~$250K, includes base and monthly profit-sharing (~$225K base plus ~25K profit-sharing bonus in first year with annual increases).

      • Stock options: 0.20% to 0.40% initial grant

      • Next-generation office campus with ideation, brainstorming and recreation facilities and a dedicated product design studio and a creator studio / filming space. Exquisite design with sweeping views of the ocean to downtown LA.

      • All meals provided free daily, fully stocked kitchen with free food, snacks, coffee and drinks.

      • Regular team building events and activities.

      • Comprehensive health coverage (executive PPO, HMO options), dental, vision coverage, paid 100% for all your dependents.

      • Sponsorship for all ongoing education, courses, books and professional certifications.

      • 401K

      • Flexible, high trust work culture. Unlimited PTO.
