    Job description

    WHO WE ARE

Have you ever stopped to wonder how your computer, clothes, furniture or household goods made their way to your doorstep? Most likely, almost everything you own arrived here in a container on a container ship. The global shipping industry is massive, complex, and has largely been done the same way for decades without much change or innovation. The lack of digital innovation and infrastructure in the global shipping space results in poor visibility, missed deadlines, and lost revenue for all parties involved.

NYSHEX is building the digital infrastructure for global shipping. Our technology platform unites the entire ocean freight supply chain into a reliable, efficient, and trusted system for global commerce. Our solution helps Shippers, Carriers, and NVOCCs improve performance, strengthen relationships and reduce manual workload.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Product Manager on NYSHEX’s data team, you will play a crucial role in shaping and optimizing the data ingestion processes that underpin our products. You will learn the ins-and-outs of our many unique ingestion pipelines and understand the nuances and pain points of each data source. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, and product, to ensure that data is ingested efficiently, accurately, and securely. Your expertise in data, technical acumen, and familiarity with code will be essential in driving our data ingestions strategy forward.

This is a full-time role reporting to our Data Technical Product Manager. NYSHEX currently operates on a hybrid model in which our team works from our NYC office 3 days a week, Monday through Wednesday, and flexibly on Thursdays and Fridays.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Data Ingestion Strategy: Collaborating with senior product managers and stakeholders to define and execute a comprehensive data ingestion strategy that aligns with the company's goals and objectives.
    2. Technical Understanding: Possessing a deep understanding of data formats, structures, and protocols. Be extremely comfortable with MySQL or other data querying frameworks. A comfort with reading code, even if you can’t write it. Identifying opportunities for data optimization and efficiency improvements.
    3. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with data providers and our own member success teams to understand how data is generated at its source. Working closely with engineering and analytics teams to define data requirements, implementing ingestion pipelines, and troubleshooting data-related issues promptly.
    4. Data Quality Assurance: Implementing and maintaining robust data quality controls and validation processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of ingested data.
    5. Security and Compliance: Collaborating with engineering to ensure data privacy and regulatory requirements are met throughout the data ingestion process.
    6. Documentation: Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation related to data ingestion processes, data sources, and data transformations. Understanding and documenting data field definitions in a comprehensive data dictionary.
    7. Data Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitoring data ingestion pipelines, identifying bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and proactively optimizing data throughput and latency.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

You are a great fit for this role if you have:

    • 4+ years of experience in the tech sector with a strong focus on data (technical data analysis, data science, etc.), ideally at a startup or in an agile environment
    • 2+ years of experience as a Product Manager working within an agile framework (comfort with JIRA, collaboration with an engineering team lead, defining roadmaps, etc)
