The British Museum’s Learning and National Partnerships department is seeking a new Volunteer Administrator to provide administrative support to the volunteer programme, working within the volunteer office. The post-holder will work with over 600 active volunteers who make an invaluable contribution to the Museum’s activity. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Museum and to be an integral part of a dedicated and highly motivated team.
Key areas of responsibility:
• To support record-keeping, making sure that the volunteer databases are maintained and statistics recorded.
• To support the recruitment of new volunteers for example carrying out security clearances, taking up references.
• To support the delivery of the main volunteer-led programmes, Eye-opener tours and Hands On desks, including work on rotas, communicating with volunteers, managing cancellations and other tasks as required.
• To respond to enquiries from prospective volunteers by telephone, email and letter.
• To support the delivery of volunteer training for example preparing training notes, setting up rooms.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) and will have a high level of PC literacy and be a confident user of Microsoft office. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential and the successful applicant will be a good team player.
