The British Museum is looking for a specialist in Korean paintings, prints and calligraphy to work on the Amorepacific Project for the Conservation of Korean Pictorial Art. In the post, you will lead in the care of the Museum’s Korean pictorial art on paper and silk through a combination of interventive and preventive measures.
Key areas of responsibility:
• To lead Amorepacific Project for the Conservation of Korean Pictorial Art
• To advise on conditions and prepare objects for loans, exhibitions, and permanent display.
• To devise and undertake projects for the care of the Korean pictorial art collections in store.
• To care for the collection through documentation, surveys, data collection and analysis.
• To develop new preventive or interventive measures as appropriate.
• To motivate and develop other staff and advise others regarding specialism. To work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the Museum and support public events.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised professional conservation qualification, or have equivalent experience, and be a specialist in the conservation of paper and silk. You will also be working towards PACR accreditation and have considerable post-qualification experience working in the heritage sector.
You will be an excellent problem solver and possess exceptional decision-making skills that enable you to lead and motivate a team effectively. You will welcome the chance for public speaking when asked to address audiences, both public and professional, and have both English and Korean language skills.
