EDUCATION
A Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in chemistry.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
Experience in writing scientific publications in chemistry;
Recent experience of applied scientific research in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry or organic chemistry;
Experience in synthesis, formulation and/or analysis of materials.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of analytical techniques pertaining to the thermal and physico-chemical characterization of materials;
Knowledge of inferential statistics analysis techniques.

Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions;
Ability to stay current with the latest technological and professional trends;

EDUCATION

Experience in synthesis, formulation and/or analysis of energetic materials.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of energetic materials;
Knowledge of analytical techniques pertaining to thermal and physico-chemical characterization of energetic materials;
Knowledge of modelling software for the synthesis, decomposition and combustion of energetic materials;
Knowledge of statistical methods for experiment design;
Knowledge of the needs of the Canadian Armed Forces in scientific research for defence.
Conditions of employment

Defence Scientists are career managed within a person-oriented system. In accordance with the DS Pay Plan, both the DS level and salary are based on the individual’s current state of professional development. Successful candidates who are not currently in the DS group will be appointed to the DS level commensurate with their current state of professional development, and at a salary that is in accordance with the Treasury Board Terms and Conditions of Employment Policy. As described in the DS Pay Plan, promotions and salary progression are based on performance.
