At HomeAway Singapore office, we are looking for a Data Platform Engineer, who will work on building infrastructures to handle big data and empower our products to help people discover the best vacation rentals. If you are passionate about data, likes to take on challenges in handling big data, have expertise in data modelling, data mining, building data platforms and dabbling with the latest in machine learning field, you will find this role exciting and challenging.

 

Responsibilities:

- Implementing ETL process and integrating data from different sources

- Build systems that can handle terabyte or petabyte of data on daily basis 

- Implement live streaming pipelines and store data in real time 

- Work with cloud computing environments of AWS and/or Google

- Architect highly scalable distributed systems using different open source tools

- Define data architecture to optimise the overall application

- Design and implement complex data models

- Build Web based tools to access and manage data 

- Write high quality, maintainable code 

- Participate in design discussions, reviews and propose/implement solutions to technical problems and challenges

 

Qualifications:

- At least 2 years of experience using big-data related tools and technologies such as Hadoop, Hbase, Hive or Spark  

- Experience with big data infrastructure of any existing Cloud Service Provider such as AWS or Google (AWS Redshift, AWS Kinesis, BigQuery etc)

- Experience with large-scale production databases

- Exposure to Data Mining or Machine Learning technologies is a big plus

- Experience working on Ruby/Ruby on Rails or Python

- Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms and Computer Science fundamentals

- Works well independently, requires little direction and exhibits a very high willingness to learn new things

- Good communication skills

- 5+ years of working experience in the Software industry

- B.S, M.S, and/or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent
