    Position Summary

    The Production Experience team builds the tooling and platform used by engineers around the company to deliver cutting edge software. From the moment an engineer checks out code to the time the code is in a production environment and serving customer traffic, Production Experience infrastructure is a central part of their experience.

    As the Engineering Manager of the Production Experience team you’ll work closely with the team, the product engineering organization, and the security engineering organization to build the software development experience that makes it easy to replicate success when delivering products to the market. You will lead the team in building a software development lifecycle that promotes agility, security and observability and helps Marqeta engineers bring the future of card payment products to market quickly and efficiently.

    We’re looking for an engineering leader with outstanding technical and management skills to manage and grow a set of highly talented engineers, deliver an exceptional developer experience and work with various teams and across the entire stack to improve their software delivery velocity and ensure that they are adhering to our high reliability standards.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Lead the Product Experience team maintaining and developing many products under the Infrastructure Organization banner.
    • Work closely with Infrastructure Product Management, engineers, security engineering and cross-functional teams to develop and execute on roadmaps that provide Marqeta engineers with a world-class production platform for building, delivering and operating their software products.
    • Bring new ideas, designs, and tools to the table, drive technical discussions and decision making related to the development and technology stack.
    • Support, develop and grow an exceptional team of engineers.
    • Establish and promote positive standards and golden paths for building software at Marqeta.
    • Support the ongoing career development of Marqeta engineers through positive coaching, goal setting and feedback.
    • Build and maintain a positive environment and team culture, a place where engineers feel they are doing the best work of their careers.
    • Build One Marqeta through proactive recruiting: sell candidates, building a network, and assisting in headcount planning.

    Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience with at least 2 years managing people in a software engineering setting.
    • Experience managing teams developing and scaling microservices using modern cloud technologies like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Experience with AWS preferred.
    • Experience with Kubernetes or other, similar, modern software orchestration platforms.
    • Exposure to a modern Java backend stack using Spring Boot, Kubernetes on AWS and Datadog for monitoring and observability.
    • Ability to lead and grow an engineering organization in a rapidly changing business environment.
    • Payment industry experience or previous experience leading an infrastructure team is useful but not essential.
