About the role

As an Engineering Lead within Tellus you will be responsible for leading technical direction and setting the bar within our engineering organization. You will lead a small squad of purpose-driven engineers to build features and systems to support Tellus’ fast-growing business. Expect "design it, build it, run it" with a team of strong, driven colleagues–– all while pushing to improve yourself and those around you through execution and mentorship.

We are seeking a Tech Lead with exceptional depth and breadth of skill to join our engineering community. You are a person of integrity and character, a supportive teammate, and a player-coach with strong communication and collaboration skills that finds satisfaction in mentoring your peers and sharing knowledge gained. You are self-motivated and can work independently or partner closely with other engineers to unpack complex problems into actionable initiatives. You are passionate about building quality products and want to own product development, end-to-end, demonstrating a strong understanding of design and development principles. You have strong communication and collaboration skills. You are a problem solver and like to challenge yourself to build the right thing–– and build it the right way. You have experience working on high availability, high volume systems; working closely with third-party vendors, leading engineers, and collaborating with business stakeholders to understand the use cases and build rock solid end-to-end solutions. And you understand the importance of alignment and accountability as a member of a fast-paced, cross-functional delivery team.

What you’ll need

As leading member of our delivery team you will:

• Lead a small squad of engineers to deliver highest-value product features and create infrastructure to support hypergrowth
• Drive technical and architecture sessions, roadmaps, and objective documents
• Contribute to defining strategic direction, planning the roadmap, escalating issues, and synthesizing feedback to ensure team success
• Demonstrate an ability to succeed in a wide range of complex situations across multiple axes: e.g. scale, uncertainty, interconnectedness
• Participate in the design review process, providing constructive critiques
• Push for best-practices in our technology stack and across our company

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum +4 years experience with Ruby on Rails required
• Minimum +2 years of work experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar cloud platforms
• Experience leading Engineers to build working software in a product company
• Understands the principles of Cloud Native architecture
• Ability to build and deploy microservices-based solutions
• Has built product from discovery to commercial launch that's used by customers
• Comfort using version control (Git)
• Understands and has employed CI/CD patterns
• Understands of system reliability and stability patterns
• Clear communicator and native or professional level English

It would be nice for you to have:

• Experience working with highly available systems
• Strong understanding of system reliability and stability patterns
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer science or a related field (Mathematics, Physics, etc)
• Experience within Finance
• Experience within a start-up or scale-up
• Experience within a product focussed environment
