🔭 About InScope

InScope is automating how companies generate financial statements and complete audits. Investors and other stakeholders typically require audited financials from private companies that hit certain growth milestones, ensuring the health of the company before they can receive funding or raise debt. Today, finance teams prepare for their audits using Word, Excel, and a whole lot of human effort. We're seeking to change that with modern digital tools.

Our first users are accounting and finance leaders at startups. We ingest data from their ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite, Quickbooks, etc) to understand their operations and disclosure requirements. We help them draft their financial statements through guided questions and AI, allowing our users to accurately generate reports that they previously collated manually in spreadsheets. We aim to grow with our clients, expanding our product into a $10B+ market solving financial audits, with the goal of redefining the entire industry.

👨‍💻👩‍💻The Role

As our founding Full Stack Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing our web application end to end. You will work closely with the founding team as we grow and build a platform that delivers a seamless and delightful user experience to accounting teams at other high growth startups and scale-ups.

We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes product engineering and who gets excited about iterating fast and building software to keep up with fast-changing priorities.

Being a founding engineer means not just taking our product from 0 to 1, but also shaping our culture, team, and strategy. You will be our first hire outside of our three founders. You will report to Avy, our CTO, closely collaborating on early design decisions and pairing on a regular basis to ship product.

👻 Challenges you're likely to face

• As the first engineer we hire, you will have the opportunity to define our architecture, choose many of the core technologies in our stack, and shape fundamental aspects of our culture. The decisions you make will impact every single engineer who works at InScope in the future.
• We're early, and while we have a strong vision, our product roadmap is loosely defined. You'll work closely with the founding team to help best serve our users, choosing features to prioritize, and figuring out how to build them.
• You'll get deep in the details of ERP and other accounting systems, aggregating millions of customer transactions by following complex accounting guidance rules.
• Many of the projects you'll be involved in will be a blank slate.

🎉 What you need to be successful

• 4+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in full stack web development
• Expert level JavaScript or Typescript, including proficiency in a front-end framework like React, Vue, or Svelte (you'll get to help us pick which one we build on)
• Working knowledge creating and maintaining REST APIs on a backend framework such as Ruby on Rails, Django, Flask, Express or Nest.JS
• Experience working with transactional relational database systems, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQLite, as well as ability to design schemas
• You've previously set up systems from scratch with Dockerized cloud deployments, whether that is on PaaS like Heroku or Render or on lower level IaaS cloud services in AWS, GCP, or Azure. We'll expect you to own provisioning and basic configuration of the systems you build.
• Exceptional communication skills. You can effectively talk (and listen) to engineers, designers, non-technical colleagues, and customers.
• You understand how to implement software engineering best practices (TDD, CI/CD, code reviews, feature flagging, A/B testing, etc.), but you also know when to set them aside and ship without them.
• Hunger for growth and learning. Every week, we'll talk about how we can help you grow and develop the skills that'll get you to your next career goal while serving InScope's broader goals.

Bonus points if you have:

• Worked at an early stage high growth startup
• A background in accounting, corporate finance, or fintech
• Experience with product analytics tools like Amplitude, Heap, Fullstory or Mixpanel

Mary and Kelsey met at Flexport, where they built the accounting function. As finance and accounting leaders at high-growth tech companies like Flexport, Miro, Yelp, Autodesk, and Dropbox they suffered many audits first-hand. They decided to join forces with Avy, who had previously built the data team at Vouch and led the Siri Metrics Platform team at Apple, to bring technology to an industry that has lagged behind in its adoption of modern digital tools.

We believe in distributed teams and will be flexible about remote work, but early-on we expect this person to be based in San Francisco to allow for fast collaboration cycles.
