About the Role
Soley is seeking a savvy Senior Data Engineer to join our fast-growing AI/ ML team. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. The Data Engineer will support our ML engineers, software developers, database architects, and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. The right candidate believes in the differentiation from clean, well-curated data and is excited by the prospect of disrupting drug discovery in this high-impact role.

What You’ll Do…

• Design, build and own the data infrastructure to manage a data pipeline for AI/ ML usage
• This infrastructure should be designed for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.
• Interface with data scientists and stakeholders to Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

Must haves:

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) or equivalent industry experience in a relevant, technical field such as Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of post-Bachelor industry experience in a Data Engineer role working on complex data pipelines in a large scale data environment including:
  • Familiarity with developing data products to drive data science, analytics and ML projects in AWS cloud services: EC2, S3, RDS and data pipelines (experience with Spark, Databricks is a plus),
  • Preprocessing input data, data cleaning (experience working with image data is a plus) proficiency for model training in production environments (agile, regression testing, version control).
  • ETL and sourcing data from various sources & modern tech stacks
  • Python, relational SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and scalable data pipelines
• A self-reliant problem-solver who also excels in teamwork, characterized by strong project management, organizational skills and superb written and verbal communication abilities

Nice to haves:

• A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large clinical, bioinformatic, cheminformatic datasets
• Experience with real-world challenges of data curation for ML from clinical datasets including molecule libraries, genomics, proteomics or clinical trial data
• Some understanding of bioinformatics, cheminformatics of cell biology and drug discovery
